The Family I Thought Knew

1 min read

The family I thought would always love me — turned out to be nothing but a disguise.

The family I thought would always love me
turned out to be nothing but a disguise.
They carry on as though they're innocent,
still hiding behind carefully crafted lies.
They walk around believing
their darkness doesn't show.
I pray they wake before they leave this world,
haunted by my visions of woe.
They hold their heads so high
and bow to power that cannot save,
for TMH God would never bless
those who feed upon the weak and brave.
Take this forewarning.
Change your heart and change your ways.
You cannot stand against my destiny
or steal the light I'm meant to raise.
And if you keep controlling what I need,
and reach to break my spirit's flame,
the family I've found beyond this life
will answer when you speak my name.
I will not return when you cry for help,
nor carry the burdens you've made.
For I've learned a truth too many ignore:
You cannot save another soul
until they choose to save their own.
